Where to Eat, Drink & Play This Weekend – Mick’s Five!

With only one more business day until the weekend you have got to be smiling by now.

I have some special ideas for your weekend including an outlook to next weekend, you will need to get in soon and buy tickets before they all run out.

1. Above the roar of the red lion you will find this French bistro 🍽️

Bistro Red Lion by Manu is a touch of Paris in Rozelle.

As Chef Manu describes it “… Somewhat classic French dishes with a modern twist you know, that's what it is and I think French food is often seen as rich and expensive and over the top and I want to bring that down a bit. It's a little Paris bistro in Rozelle you know. It's a bistro in Paris with really good food on a cheaper side of the fine dining…”

The menu is limited but caters to most. For an entrée you cannot go past the hand cut beef tartare @ $25 and for a main I would always recommend the chargrilled pork cutlet @ $49 with a side of French fries.

Of course dining with friends you get to share the experience and to help you out, there is the $99 per head group share menu.

Open Wednesday through Sunday for lunch and dinner at varying times. Bookings are highly recommended which can be done via the website or calling the team on 02 8077 1030.

2. This was the Aussie Youth Hotel until …

The Glebe Hotel serves stylish bistro meals, plus craft beer and choice wines, in an old-fashioned pub with a beer garden.

Glebe’s favourite local pub since 1862. Formerly known as the Australian Youth Hotel, the heritage listed public bar and dining destination is full of quirk, character and charm. Guess they changed the name to disassociate with youth drinking 😬

The pub keeps the punters coming back with The Sunday Roast, Monday $20 Steak Night, Tuesday Nights 2 for 1 Meal Deal, Wednesday Trivia and $18 Chicken Schnitzel, Thursday Night $28 Curry and a Can, Friday Night Members Draw Meat Trays and live music on Friday and Saturdays after 8pm.

Located at 63 Bay Street, Glebe. Open 11am to midnight all days except Sunday when they operate midday to 10pm.

3. Sunset sessions at “The Cock” with Sarah Levins & Nikodimos 🌆

Bring a picnic blanket or collapsible chair and picnic food, or purchase food on the island. Alcohol cannot be brought onto the island but and be purchased at the Sunset Sessions venue.

It is three jam packed days of practice and racing for the V8 SuperUtes, Touring Car Masters, Dunlop Super2 Series, Porsche Carrera Cup and of course the Repco Supercars. The fun starts at 11:30am on Friday, 11:00am on Saturday and 9:00am on Sunday.

5. Rock on down to The Rocks Market 🐚

The Rocks Market is a vibrant open-air waterfront market, held each weekend, with stalls for local crafts & street food.

Open Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 am to 5:00pm there is plenty of time to shop, eat and get a beverage.

To plan and not be disappointed The Rocks management have published the following on their website:

The markets have some amazing things on offer that you will not find elsewhere in Sydney. Looking for a unique gift, you will probably find it here.

Have a great weekend.

Cheers and beers,
