Weekend Plans Sorted – Top Eats, Drinks & Events Inside!

I say Arthur! Yes today’s restaurant recommendation is named Arthur 😃 But wait there is more … a new but old pub, not to be missed festival, super rugby and a twilight market for a bit of weekend shopping.

1. A memorable dining experience with its stylish yet cozy ambiance 🍽️

On Monday I recommended Jane which is the sister restaurant to Arthur, both are located on Bourke Street, Surry Hills.

The owner, Tristan Rosier, works closely with the head chef, Juwon Gwak, to create an ever changing Australian-only menu using ingredients native to Australia while sourcing exclusively Australian grown and produced products.

There are two five course options available Chef’s Menu at $120 pp which may comprise rock oysters, wholemeal sourdough, scallop, tuna, murray cod, lamb saddle and bruny island cheese tart OR the Arthur Menu at $160 pp and example is rock oysters, wholemeal sourdough, scallop, kangaroo, tuna, sea urchin, bay bug, quail and bruny island cheese tart. A very well thought out drinks menu accompanies this unique menu.

And Arthur scores a 4.7 star Google rating 😃

Located at 544 Bourke Street, Surry Hills and open from Wednesday to Sunday for dinner and also lunch on the weekend. Lunch is 12:30pm to mid afternoon and dinner 6:00 to 11:00 pm. Bookings are highly recommended and can be made online via the website or call the team on 0468 991 088

2. A new old local pub from the future 🍸️

The White Horse Hotel was built in the 1930s but has undergone renovations over the years, the most recent in 2024 and now is a pub but not a pub. The bar is no longer on the ground floor … what a unique idea … cheers 🍺

The Executive Chef, Jed Gerrard, spent time at Tetsuya’s and Bilson’s and has crafted a brilliant menus. The a la carte includes; rock oysters, swordfish belly, roasted chicken skin, tuna, skull island king prawns, pork belly, ricotta dumplings, free range chicken, wagyu scotch fillet.

The three share menu options are; Share Menu for $88 pp, Premium Share Menu for $120 pp and the Vegetarian Share Menu for $85 pp.

The bar on level one has a fine choice of cocktails (many unique to The White Horse), wine by the glass (Aussie, Kiwi and Euro) and a tasty bar menu.

Located at 381 Crown Street, Surry Hills and just across the road from Shannon Reserve The White Horse is in the middle of the action. Open Wednesday through Sunday at varying hours from midday or 5:30pm until late. Bookings for the restaurant can be done online.

3. Learn, grow and discover yourself 💆

The Mind Body Spirt Festival is now alive and kicking at the ICC Darling Harbour. Running from today until Sunday and it is Free to all.

There are 200+ exhibitors, 35 guest speakers, prizes to be won and unbeatable discounts only available over the next four days for those in attendance. Plenty of reasons to get to the ICC over the coming days.

From skincare, essential oils and herbal supplements to jewellery, precious stones, clothing and spirituality guides – there’s something for everyone at the festival.

There is a great range of speakers including the featured speaker and former triple Olympian, Lisa Curry. To avoid disappointment check out the speakers timetable when planning your visit to the festival.

Ever had a reading from a Psychic? For $60 you can get a standard reading from one of the thirty seven psychics at the festival.

Open 10am to 6pm daily. Tickets are free and can be booked online via the Mind Body Spirit Festival website.

4. Super Rugby: Waratahs V Brumbies 🏉

The Waratahs are fifth and the Brumbies fourth on the ladder and only a point between them. So the stakes are high and the Waratahs will have the home ground advantage when they play the Brumbies this Saturday at Allianz Stadium.

McKellar acknowledged the strengths of the ACT Brumbies, particularly their forward pack and rolling maul, a hallmark of their play for many years. “We expect the Brumbies to target us with their rolling maul — it’s a big part of their DNA,” he said. “But we’ve trained hard to counter that, and the boys know what to expect…”

Gates open to the public at 6:30pm and the game stars at 7:35pm. General admission tickets for adults start at $25 plus booking fee. Discounts for concession and children under 15. Get your tickets through Ticketek

5. Your Friday night just got a glow-up!

The Twilight Market at Paddy’s Flemington is a twice a month event.

Every 2nd and 3rd Friday from 5:00 to 9:00 pm you sit down for a meal with some epic street food, and chill out to live music - in our new buzzing night market. Angela Paoki is the performer tomorrow night.

The punters have rated the Twilight Markets 4.0 and Janssen sums it up well in the review “…Love the night market vibe here at Paddy's Night Food Market. Very vibrant and alive with lots of food choices and events happening around …”

Parking is $2 per vehicle for location and further details check out the website.

Have a great weekend.

Cheers and beers,

Mick
