Your Guide to a Perfect Sydney Weekend: Eats, Drinks & Events!
Well the weather turned a bit compared to the forecast earlier in the week. A almost tropical storm took the shine off the hot weather, but hey I guess the gardens are smiling 😉
There is certainty allot going on around the old Sydney town with Black Friday sales in full swing, police recruited to manage the traffic in and out of Westfields and a strong feel of Christmas in the air 🎄 and it is still November !
Anyway let’s enjoy not matter what the weather.
1. More than chips at this Chippendale restaurant
Located at 46-52 Meagher Street, Chippendale you will find Ester Restaurant which is everything but meager 😀
A small restaurant with a great menu and wine list. Once the place fills it is a buzz with smiling patrons as they nibble and sip the delights on offer. With a 4.5 star rating from 1,400 reviewers, it is a testament to the Ester team that they continue to deliver on the experience.
I would highly recommend the set menu includes oysters, coral trout, king prawns and pork chop with a crepe brulee for dessert which can be pair with local wines for an additional $85.

2. Drop into the Travellers, enjoy a beer like in the old days 🍺
You don’t have to be a traveller to enjoy the old world charm of Travellers Brewhouse in Pyrmont.
Traveller’s prides itself on not having pokies and no big screen TVs with all day sport. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting and always changing. There are 17 craft beer taps in the brewhouse that rotate 100% Australian owned independent breweries beers 🍻
The food menu is a surprise including chiko rolls, duck spring rolls, scotch eggs, lamb and chicken gyros plus some great burger options.
There are regular weekly events including Thursday night cocktail hour from 5 to 9pm with all cocktails at $12 each 🍸️
3. Like the cinema? Heard of the Golden Age?
I must say I am a bit shocked and feel somewhat disappointed that I was totally unaware of the Golden Age Cinema and Bar. Located on Commonwealth Street, Surry Hills just across the road from Chin Chin restaurant, where I have been many a time.
Dating back to 1940 it was the home to Paramount Pictures in Sydney until the 1970s. Painstaking refurbished true to the art deco style it is a gem of Surry Hills.
From a huge range of films of today and some of the classics there is always a variety to keep the guests coming back. Along with live entertainment and the food and beverage options there is so much to savour.
Check out the films, live music and menu at the Golden Age Cinema and Bar HERE
4. Itching for Golf - the action is on at Kingston Heath Golf Club and The Victoria Golf Club 🏌️
The Australian Open Golf tournament runs from today until Sunday at Kingston Heath and the Victoria.
With total prizemoney of $3.4 million it as always has pulled in some of the big local and world tour members in men’s and women’s golf.
If you have plans to avoid the predicted Sydney storms then pulling up a stool at your local or on the couch at home will be the ideal situation to catch all the action on TV.
Live stream is available on Kayo.
5. Barangaroo is great but the foreshore walk is brilliant
No need to leave the city to do a spectacular walk, just head down to Barangaroo.
Your walk commences on Wulugulu Walk, near King Street Wharf One. Heading North you will pass Lotus restaurant, Crown and Crown Towers around Nawi Cove to the foreshore of Barangaroo Reserve onto where you will find the Port Authority buildings then turn South and walk past Clyne Reserve, down Meriman street onto Hickson road and then back to Barangaroo. All up about a 3 kilometre stroll which will take around 40 minutes.
On return to Barangaroo stop in at one of the huge number of cafes, bars and restaurants for a beverage or meal.
All the best for the weekend.
Cheers and beers,
Mick
