Weekend Ready? Top Sydney Restaurants, Pubs & Entertainment

If you are a regular on Sydney trains then you know we are likely to be in for a huge impact from the rail workers strike planned for Friday to Sunday 😢

Therefore you will probably have to take a ferry, bus, walk or car if you need to get out an about. The weather forecast says you got to get out - tops of 29 to 34 over the next few days and no rain in sight 😎

1. A Greek god of the Sydney restaurant scene

The Apollo Restaurant is a cozy escape to the Greek Isles without leaving Potts Point.

The banquet menus are cheeky; “The Full Greek”, “The Super Greek”, “Apollo’s Feast” and “The Vegan Greek” … first I have heard of a vegan Greek or did they mean geek 😉

If you enjoy Jazz and G&Ts then book the Gin and Jazz lunch.

The Chef’s Table is an exclusive or non-exclusive option to dine in more quite setting with up to 12 people. Plan well ahead when booking as it is a highly sort after choice for private functions.

The restaurant trades all seven days but lunch is only available on Wednesday through Sunday. Bookings essential - 02 8354 0888 or via the website

2. Sydney's oldest pub, fortunately no war here !

The Fortune of War Hotel is rushing towards it’s 200 year anniversary. Opened in 1828 by former convict, Samuel Terry, it is the oldest continuously licensed public hotel in Sydney. It has a long history of the first and last stop for Australian Armed Forces coming and going from Sydney to defend our nation.

Grab a beer, wine or cocktail along with a meal of pub classics, burgers or bar snacks and soak up the history.

Live music is also a great addition to the food and drinks. Guitarists like; Jimmy Bear, Noah Mac, Will Freddy, Scott Day, Dan Sharkey and Gemma make regular appearances and keep the patrons tapping their feet 👣

My only disappointment is that they took Resch’s off the taps 😞

For your convenience, open seven days a week from 9am to midnight. Check out the Fortune of War at The Rocks and soak up the history.

3. Paddo markets - crafty choices 🎁

You won’t find Paddington Bear but you will find a treasure trove of creative fashion and accessories, beautiful smelling soaps and candles and art that inspires at the Paddington Markets.

Operating every Saturday from 10am to 4pm, “Paddo Markets” is a must see if you are starting to think about gifts for Christmas. It started operations in 1973 and with over 150 stalls of unique items, it is the perfect place to find a pressie for the hard to purchase for relative 😃

If you are driving to the markets then park in Centennial Park near the Paddington gates and walk to the markets which are located at 395 Oxford Street, Paddington.

4. A weekend of football - the round ball type

The 2024 Unite Round is coming to Sydney, where the A-League will showcase a spectacular celebration of football from 22 to 24 November, 2024.

Over three action-packed days, all 14 clubs from the Isuzu UTE A-League and Ninja A-League will converge in Sydney for a full round of 12 matches played across two iconic venues: Allianz Stadium and Netstrata Jubilee Stadium.

At Netstrata Jubilee Stadium, the spotlight shines on the Ninja A-League Women, with six matches offering FREE entry for all—no tickets needed. Just arrive and enjoy a family-friendly football extravaganza!

Meanwhile, Allianz Stadium will host all six Isuzu UTE A-League Men matches, promising an unforgettable atmosphere unlike any other in Australian sport.

Adding to the excitement are family-friendly fan zones and the return of the Girls Unite grassroots initiative, making this year’s Unite Round a must-experience event for football lovers of all ages.

5. Get your runners on - Bondi to Bronte is calling 🏖️

The Bondi to Bronte walk is a part of the overall Bondi to Coogee trail.

From the Bondi, end the walk commences near 1 Notts Avenue, Bondi, near Icebergs. Heading South you will walk past Squid Bay, Bondi Bay, Tamarama Bay / Beach and arrive at the North end of Bronte Beach. All up it is around 3 kilometres and does have some steep steps to climb along the way. The amazing views of the coastline and some beautiful homes to gawk at 😆 makes it a must do.

At the Southern end of Bronte Beach you can dine at one of the cafes or restaurants and then head back to Bondi for another 3 kilometres of calorie burning.

Bronte Beach

All the best for the weekend.

Cheers and beers,

Mick
