Weekend Picks: Sydney’s Best Spots for Food, Fun & Adventure

Happy Thursday 😃 This editions of Mick’s Five brings some diverse adventures across Sydney this weekend from food to bars, live music, live sport and a walking tour with a drag queen!

With the dreaded rain forecast this weekend some of the indoor activities might be the best choice, but hey they are great too!

1. House on the corner, Mendoza inspired - can you guess?

Loosely translating to ‘house on the corner’, you will find Casa Equina restaurant on the corner of Elliott & Darling Streets, Balmain. Balmain is again “birthing” brilliant dining like this gem.

Will Quartel, executive chef, brings Argentinian flavours to the F.A.B. menu. I would highly recommend the Pork Chicharrón with chilli arbol sauce for an entree and the Free Range Duck Breast with smoked cauliflower, silverbeet, chutney, jus.

Closed on a Monday with varying opening hours for the balance of the week. Best to make a booking as the Casa is a hot spot in the inner West. Bookings via the website

2. A Czech pilsner and Hungarian goulash … all in the one spot

Tommy’s Beer Café: an authentic central European experience in the heart of Glebe, but who is Tommy? Check out “The Legend” on Tommy’s About section of the website, most interesting background 😆

With 1,300+ Google reviews, Tommy’s scores an impressive 4.6 stars, it is definitely because of the great staff and large portions. Terence warns us “… If you want a food coma, then come to this place. Beware of the pork knuckle, it is actually a dinner for two. I was absolutely shocked when the gentleman dropped the plate on the table and said "champion of breakfasts".

And you have to love the beers 🍻 ; Gambrinus Pilsner, Budejovicky budvar lager, Pilsner urquell, Cernovar dark lager, Czech Cut, Liebenweiss beer, Snake bite 🐍 , Crystal lager, diesel or shandy.

Closed on a Monday (to assist with the hangover recovery 😁 ) open Tuesday through Sunday, starting at midday or 4pm until midnight.

3. Hot Fuss you said, well tell The Killers that!

Ok so you missed Cold Chisel’s 50th anniversary tour, well hang around Qudos Bank Arena and you can see The Killers.

Formed in Vegas back in 2001, The Killers have recorded seven studio albums and they are loved by plenty. Mr. Brightside has been viewed on YouTube 580 million times.

Get your tickets for tonight or Friday, 6th or 7th December via Ticketek

4. Sheffield Shield - yes see it live at the SCG 🏏

The NSW Blues are up against WA this weekend - 6 to 9 December at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

After stunning the Tasmanians by a 74 run win The Blues are likely to keep up the moment and smash around the men from the West.

If you cannot make it out to the SCG it is also live stream on Kayo.

5. Join The Fabulous Wonder Mama on her Walking Tour 🚶

The fabulous wonder mama is a scream and her walking tours of Sydney’s LGBT Hub, Oxford Street, Darlinghurst is nothing like you can do anywhere else in Sydney.

Approximately two hours of a deep dive discovery into the LGBT hub including some iconic venues such as The Stonewall Hotel, The Oxford Hotel, and the Darlinghurst Bookshop. And you get a free gelato as part of the deal 🍦

Walking tours are Sundays from 11am - book online

Have a great weekend.

Cheers and beers,

Mick
