Sydney Weekend Unlocked: The Best Eats, Beats & Bars
The weather certainly has changed with the mercury falling yesterday and the rain arriving. Although I must say the change is pleasant given the heat we have seen recently.
Although the rain does put a bit of a spoiler on the outdoor activities but there is plenty to do in Sydney indoors if you want to dodge the inclement weather.
1. There is something a bit "odd" but you will like it 🍽️
Odd Culture Newtown is not what you would expect, it is anything but “odd” it is best described as amazing.
It is a European inspired dining and an exploration of fermentation. The food menu is limited but changes regularly. At the moment I would recommend the chicken liver pate, smoked mussels and BBQ Octopus. I do hear that the Koji Chicken is a favourite of many.
The drinks menu is another beast. Extensive and deep offerings covering cocktails, beer, ciders, sparkling, wines (local and French), spirits and no alcohol options.
Happy Hour runs 4 - 6pm on Wednesday through Friday and The Wax Club spins tunes every Friday and Saturday.
Located at 266 King Street, Newtown and open Wednesday to Sunday at varying hours. Walk ins only.
2. What's on at Watsons you may ask ? 🌞
The Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel is a landmark of Sydney. The views onto Sydney harbour are always inspiring and forever moving ⛵️
The food menu is a cut above the regular fare and encompasses antipasti, flat breads, good seafood options, burgers, pork, wagyu rump, ribeye, chicken, pizzas and salads plus options for the kids. There is also a reasonable range of drinks including cocktails and spritz.
Bookings are available for the Australia Day long weekend (24 to 27 January) with DJs on Friday and Saturday and live mics on Sunday. Bookings via the website
If you are looking to stay in Watsons Bay then then the hotel has a 20% off all rooms offer from January through March. Bookings online or phone 02 9337 5444.
3. Dreaming of a Luna Circus? Well you are in luck 😆
The jingle is still in the back of my mind “… Just for Fun…” well Luna Park is still that way all these years later.
Luna Park is always evolving and now you can dive into some very unique entertainment options.
The Luna Park Dream Circus is a magical escape suitable for all ages, making it a fantastic complement to a Luna Park visit or a memorable night. The show runs for around 45 minutes and tickets are priced at $29. If you purchase an unlimited rides pass to Luna Park then he dream circus ticket is reduced to $15.
If you are interesting in Squid Game then you can get tickets for the Squid Game Experience here
As I said, Luna Park is Just for Fun 😃
4. Are you liking a bit of ODI? Check out the Aussies V England 🏏
You may have seen allot of test cricket recently but how about the Women’s One Day International when the Aussie battle England?
The three day series kicks off at North Sydney Oval pm 12th January 2025. A great venue to be closer to the action.
Tickets available via Ticketek. Adults priced at a bargain $20 whilst kids aged 4-15 are only $5.
5. Another New Year Celebration in January? Lunar New Year 🐍
It is the Year of the Snake this Lunar New Year. And yes it is not this weekend but in order to get your calendar sorted I am giving you the heads up now.
The festivities kick off on 29 January 2025 and include street parties, live entertainment, lion dances, dragon boats and lots of food.
The Haymarket Street Festival is on 1 February and the Dragon Boats Festival on 7 February.
Further information is published by the City of Sydney on their website
As always I hope you have a cracking good weekend.
Cheers and beers,
Mick
