Sydney’s Best Finds: Cafes, Pubs & Must-Do’s for Your Week Ahead

Well thank goodness we have better weather this week. The outlook is for a Wednesday high around 36 degrees dropping to a more comfortable mid to high 20’s from Thursday. No rain 🌧️ this week !

With some fantastic indoor / outdoor recommendations, there is no excuse to go out and try something different.

1. Laneway Café Classics in Potts Point 🥪

Potts Point has changed so much over the years. Less of the edgy and more of the Chic.

Room 10 is tucked away in Llankelly Place and has garnered a solid following. Weekend brunch times can see a wait of up to 30 minutes for this cute little Potts Point café.

The punters have rated it a 4.6 stars on Google and I can see why. There is all day breakfast options (check out the R10 breakfast rice), salads, sandwiches, pastries, tea, coffee and cold drinks. The meals sizes are quite generous and reasonably priced.

Open from 7:00 am seven days a week with closing at 3:00 pm.

2. Gorgeous bar, amazing views of the harbour 🌉

Located in The Pullman Grand Sydney Harbour, the Hacienda Bar is a chic, airy bar with brilliant harbour views. Serving wines and cocktails with shareable plates.

The food menu ranges from oysters to poached prawns, snapper ceviche, crab linguine and even a club sandwich and wagyu beef burger amongst the options.

Lots of drinks available including cocktails, beer, wines, sparkling and non-alcoholic.

Closed on a Monday but open varying hours from Tuesday through Sunday - check the website before you venture out.

3. An outdoor bed cinema ? Only at Barangaroo 🛏️ 🎦

You know it is Summer in Sydney when the outdoor cinema options pop up. Mov’in Bed Beach Cinema is located at Barangaroo and what makes it special is you can watch it in the comfort of a bed with your better half.

The organisers have put down 280 tonnes of white sand, 120 queen sized and 50 king size “cloud-like” beds with pillows and blankets. And the movies are projected on a massive 15 metre screen. Now that is unique 😃

There is an extensive program of new and classic films and food and beverage offerings served directly to your bedside.

Running up until March 2025, pick a movie and buy your tickets online.

4. The ultimate destination for swimming, drinking & dining 🍸️

Free harbour side pool? Yes you and up to 24 friends, or some randoms, can enjoy the Pool by Pier Bar at Pier One Sydney Harbour.

To put the icing on your pool by the harbour experience is a truly extensive range of drinks (cocktails, spirits, beers, wines, sparkling wines) and a selection of food options from the more modest plates to the full meals can be ordered for delivery to you at the pool side.

Open from 11am to 6pm seven days a week until the end of February 2025.

Groups of 10+ should book online to avoid disappointment.

5. The most perfectly positioned restaurant on the planet 🌏️ ?

Catalina Restaurant at Rosebay has been around for 30 years. The McMahon family are still the keepers of this fine establishment which the Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide reported as “… one of the most perfectly positioned restaurants on the planet...” To top things off it has been a hatted restaurant every year since it launched back in 1994.

Catalina’s menus are updated on a daily basis and shift to reflect the seasons, blending modern Australian cuisine with classic Mediterranean flavours. The Catalina classics such as pan-fried snapper, Sydney rock lobster risotto, Little Joe grass fed beef tenderloin, and the roasted suckling pig, are mainstays of the menu.

Open 12 noon to 10:00 pm all days, except when booked out for private events. I highly recommend booking via the website or call the friendly staff on 02 9371 0555.

Thanks for reading!

Cheers and beers,
