Sydney’s Top Picks: Cafes, Pubs & Events for the Week

Another week has rolled past so quick. I hope the weekend was a good one for you and you were not effected by the storm that blasted through Sydney.

The predictions from the weather men and women says lots of Sun and mid to high 20s so plenty of reason to get out and about. And I have another five for you today, so no excuses.

And don’t forget, feel free to forward this email to friends and family if you think they will get value from it.

1. Get happy with the chappies at Two Chaps, Marrickville

Two Chaps in Marrickville is a treasure of the inner west.

Everything is made from scratch at Two Chaps. The Winter Day Menu includes amazing dishes such as the citrus chamomile pancakes, mixed green & pea toast, miso eggplant burger and the corned “Beet” Reuben.

They trade seven days for breakfast / brunch and lunch opening most mornings at 7:30am and closing on Sunday to Thursday at 3pm. Friday and Saturday they reopen for two hours from 7pm for their night menu.

The night menu is a set pasta menu priced at $70pp and BYO ($10 bottle corkage). They also have vegan and gluten free options. Bookings recommended.

Bagging a huge 4.7 star Google reviews rating says it all.

2. Maybe I will see you at Maybe Sammy this week 🍸️

Maybe Sammy is a Harrington Street, Sydney cocktail bar that is influenced by 1950s Hollywood and Vegas glamour. It opens mid afternoon Tuesday through Saturday. At the end of the week it can attract crowds queuing to get into this hip establishment.

They have released a new drinks menu titled “The Grand Maybe Sammy Hotel Menu” which features cocktails such as the Sauna Room, Do No Disturb and Wake Up Call 😃

Pulling a Google Rating of 4.5 stars, Delfina’s review sums it up “Is such a cool spot! The vibe here is just perfect—the decor, the music, and the overall atmosphere come together so well. The menu has some real gems, too. I was blown away by how friendly everyone was, especially Holly, who was super kind, and Vincenzo, who’s got so much charisma…”

3. Trevor Noah is in town appearing in his “Off The Record Tour”

Appearing at the Sydney Opera House tomorrow, 19th November, is Trevor Noah in his Off The Record Tour.

The “Trev” is the real “Noah”. Full of comedic genius and a brilliant mind. You wont be disappointed … unless you cannot get tickets 😉

At the time of writing only a few tickets remain starting at $109.90 + booking fee. Book at the Sydney Opera House

4. When was the last time you visited the MCA?

The MCA, Museum of Contemporary Art, is perched between Circular Quay and the Overseas Passenger terminal and looks out to the Opera House.

Closed on a Tuesday but open all other days from 10am until 5pm. And the best thing is that it is FREE 😃

A changing and refreshing mix of exhibitions bursting with imagination and sometimes bordering on the titillating.

5. Ever wondered what the Yakuza are really like ?

The second season of Tokyo Vice was released on SBS on Demand. Jake Adelstein continues his crime reporting for Japan’s most prestigious newspaper and the digs into the deep dark dealings of the Yakuza and those within their satellite of influence.

If you haven’t seen the first season then do so as it is a gripping drama of the underbelly of Tokyo in the 1990’s. But be warned this is a big commitment as the two seasons cover 18 episodes of around 50 minutes each.

Thanks for reading!

Cheers and beers,
