Fuel Your Week! Cafes, Pubs, and Sydney’s Best for Monday Motivation
January has already rolled past, we are into a new lunar new year and Valentine’s Day is only a week and a half away.
Off to a great start this week with a bit of freaking and a dash of Mexican. I hope you enjoy my recommendations for this week 😃
1. A freaking good time at this super café ☕️
With an emphasis on aesthetic and vibe, Superfreak is one of the best new cafes in town, pairing its vibrant interior with a homestyle menu and a vinyl soundtrack. This one is great for visitors seeking a lively café experience.
Checkout the Instagram page for Superfreaks beautiful assortment of breakfasts, brunch and lunch options. I love the lunch plate which includes a bit of this and that 🍽️ The coffee is also first class - long black for me!
Conveniently located opposite Enmore Park at 333a Enmore Road, Marrickville. I generally can find parking around the Enmore Park whenever I have visited.
Open 6:00 am on weekdays and 7:00 am on weekends. Closing at 3:00 pm each day.
2. A tiny mezcal bar in the CBD 🥃
When I say tiny and difficult to find, you better believe me. Cantina OK! is a very small mezcal bar located in Council Place, Sydney - just off Clarence Street, not far from the corner of Market and Clarence Streets.
As cantina OK say it … Micro Mezcal is a spirit defined by diversity; by a defiance of standard. It laughs at the rest of the spirit worlds attempt to ensure consistency. Every mezcal is different this year compared to last. Micro Mezcal is complex. You can explore it by region, flavour kernel and producer.
They also produce a sparkling margarita seltzer and have shipped 2,000,000 bottles so far.
The patrons have given Cantina OK a 4.8 Google star rating 🤩
Happy hour is 4:00 to 5:00pm everyday. Opening hours are 4:00pm to 2:00am everyday !
3. A waking dream of Mexico 🎪
It is the last week of Cirque Du Soleil Luzia under the big top in Moore park.
LUZIA is inspired by the people, places, and stories that define Mexico. Take a journey through a dream of Mexico, from the folklore of old to the urban landscape of today. LUZIA takes you to an imaginary Mexico, like in a waking dream, where light (“luz” in Spanish) quenches the spirit and rain (“lluvia”) soothes the soul.
With a surrealistic series of grand visual surprises and breathtaking acrobatic performances, LUZIA cleverly brings to the stage multiple places, faces and sounds of Mexico taken from both tradition and modernity.
General admission, VIP and Meet & Greet tickets can be purchased via the website
4. A popular walk with waterside and skyline views 🚶♀️
The Bay Run is a popular walking and jogging track loved by many in the Inner West. Covering 7 kilometres the track edges around Iron Cove and takes in the water views of and surrounding skyline.
The path is divided by a centre line that separates the pedestrian and cyclist lanes. Both lanes are bidirectional. There are restaurants and cafes close to the track and also public toilet facilities.
If time permits you can stop off at Birkenhead Point Shopping Centre, but don’t forget anything you buy will need to be hauled back to your starting point on the track 😉
5. Chinese restaurant in a leisure centre named after a former prime minister ?
One of the more eclectic breweries in Marrickville is The Bob Hawke Beer and Leisure Centre. Within the 1970s cream brick brewing house you will find the ever popular Lucky Prawn Chinese restaurant.
At the moment the Lucky Prawn has a banquet menu for Lunar New Year. At $89 per head it is cracking great value and includes; scallops, prawn toast, sashimi plate, prawn wontons, crab, pippies and pork char sui plus sides and finishing off with a fruit platter.
I highly recommend getting a group together so you can enjoy one of the regular banquet menus; Bob’s Banquet $55 per head, Big Banquet $85 per head or The People’s Banquet at $65 per head.
Yum Cha Sundays - the first Sunday of the month is Yum Cha Sunday! A special brunch service featuring an exciting menu of Lucky Prawn dishes, tinnie trolley service and special drag queen host.
Bookings are essential which are best done via the website
