Big Weekend Ahead – Sports, Dining & More in Mick’s Five!
The football season is upon us and so choose your code and get out and support your team!
I have got some cracker suggestions for this weekend from unique dining to live music, sport and a schooner or two surrounded by Art Deco.
1. Where Middle Eastern vibrance meets Japanese Precision 😵
Located at 32 Falcon Street, Crows Nest, No. 32 Restaurant & Bar is a unique dining experience brought to you by Chef Hesam Nourifard, where Middle Eastern warmth and Japanese finesse unite in a harmonious culinary blend … I couldn’t have said it better myself.
Starters include choices such as Sydney rock oysters, Iranian caviar, beef tartare, octopus, king prawn and kingfish. For mains there is a selection including; lamb shoulder, barramundi, duck, spatchcock, beef and salmon. The star anise Margra lamb shoulder is highly recommended. All dishes best shared between four so you get to savor the diverse flavours.
Cannot make a decision? You can always opt for one of the three set menus that start at $110 per person.
Chef has gained a strong following with a Google 4.4 star rating. Michelle nails it with her review “… Middle Eastern and Japanese fusion cuisine was intriguing 😶 The restaurant had a warm and subdued atmosphere. The staff were so lovely 🥰 The service felt personalised as they were very friendly, attentive and explained each dish. The staff are opened to make drinks according to your preferences 😊 The food was delicious and the flavour profiles were quite unique…”
Open from Wednesday to Sunday for dinner and also lunch on the weekend. Lunch is 12:00 to 2:30pm and dinner 6:00 to 11:00 pm. Bookings can be made online via the website or call the team on 0426 266 622
2. An art deco institution with a friendly bar area 🍻
I love a bit of art deco and the Blue’s Point Hotel does not disappoint. Established in 1864 and named “Bluey” by the locals it has a great vibe and is dog friendly too.
The lunch and dinner menu includes quality takes on the pub classics plus some surprises like the chili prawn linguine, Bengali curry, Atlantic salmon and others.
Happy hour is Monday to Thursday from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. where house beer schooners are $6.50 and house wines $8.50. Cocktails discounted to $16 on Thursday between 6:00 and 8:00 pm or grab a $14 spritz on Friday between 5:00 and 7:00pm.
Located at 116 Blues Point Road, McMahons Point, it is an easy stroll down the road from North Sydney train station. Open 11:00 am to 10:00pm Sunday to Wednesday and another two hours later for Thursday to Saturday.
3. Dressed For Success, Listen To Your Heart … yes you guessed it Roxette is in Sydney 🎵
2025 is a live revival of Roxette’s massive catalogue, all penned by Per Gessle. He takes the band back on stage at the ICC to do what he loves the most; perform his songs live for us. Per and the Roxette band will be joined on stage by Swedish singer and megastar Lena Philipsson.
The support act for Roxette is the Aussie rockstars, Boom Crash Opera. Bringing back the 80s and 90s 😃
The is only one gig in Sydney is this Saturday 8th March 2025.
Doors open at 5:30pm, Boom Crash Opera kick off at 7:00pm followed by Roxette at 8:15pm.
For the best available seating purchase online at Ticketek or take your chance and pick up at the ICC box office from 5:00pm on 8th March.
4. AFL Opening Round @ The Sydney Cricket Ground 🏉
Oh Swanny, how I luv yah …. No not that swanny but rather the Sydney Swans start the season at the Sydney Cricket Ground tomorrow night.
The Swans take on the Hawks for what is sure to be a hum dinger match. With Sydney crashing out of the 2024 grand final by getting trounced by the Lions, they will look to come out strong in their first match, especially given it is a home game.
Hawthorn finished 7th on the ladder last year and will want to ensure they put in a big effort for their first match.
General admission tickets for adults start at $60 plus booking fee. Discounts for concession and children under 15. Get your tickets through Ticketek.
5. The markets by the Harbour Bridge 🎁
The Kirribilli Markets is a bi-monthly market offering a rotation of vendors selling artisan fashions, jewelry, foods and gifts. The markets started back in 1976 and have up to 200 stalls covering a huge range of items, some of which are unique to these markets.
The markets are open this Sunday 9th March 2025 from 8:30am until 3:00pm. Check out the map to understand the layout of the market stalls.
The Burton street tunnel features exclusive Artisan made products with the Green and Gravel areas featuring Fashion stalls and much much more..
Located at 70 - 72 Alfred Street South, Milson Point which is just next to the Milson Point train station, always the best way to get the the markets 🚆
Have a great weekend.
Cheers and beers,
Mick
