Big Sports Weekend & Must-Try Restaurant – Mick’s Five!
Pasta, craft beer, tatts, AFL and a Sunday hangout … could you ask more of me? As the weekend nears, I have put together a great line up of choices to keep you entertained, fed and watered. Bring on the weekend !
1. Nonna approved bowls of traditional Italian pasta 🥣
Rosa Pasta Bar at 182 Harris Street, Pyrmont is a “nonna approved” place to tuck into Italian starters, pasta, sides and desserts.
The starter menu includes options from $8 anchovy toast to $39 antipasti platter for three. The average starter plate price is around $12 😄
When it comes to the main course pasta dishes they range in price from $22 to $28 - now that is a bargain. The linguine prawn alla busara and mafaldine lamb ragu really hit the spot.
The Google “gods” give Rosa an impressive 4.7 star rating. Alexandria sums it up in her review “…Excellent friendly service , cozy and accommodating. Pastas were fantastic, we had two, both with cotolettas on the side. Chicken was juicy and beef was soft. I also really enjoyed my cocktail and had difficulty pick the one I wanted as all sounded great…”
To help with the cost of living Rosa has a Tuesday to Friday happy hour from 3:00 to 5:00 pm with $10 house wine and $12 spritz or enjoy the Tuesday to Friday $20 pasta, garlic bread and soft drink takeaway lunch special.
Open 11:30am to 9:30pm Tuesday to Sunday for lunch and dinner. Bookings are recommended and can be made online via the website or call the team on 0423 392 272
2. A century-old pub that is all about craft beer 🍺
The Quarryman’s Hotel is over 100 years old and is known for its 34 craft beers which mainly come from independent brewers plus some of your favourites. It has a great vibe when in full swing on a Sunday ☺️
The beer line up includes; Ginger Beer, South Seas Lager, Resch’s, Hazy Pale Ale, Unwind, F-Yeah APA, Status Quo, Three Sheets, Bang On, Nastro Azzurro, Newtowner and XPA.
The rooftop is open from Wednesday to Sunday from noon until late and is the best place to hang out on mild sunny days. You can grab a meal form the comprehensive menu which includes share platters, pub mains, burgers, pizza and salads. Daily specials are also available, like the Sunday Roast at $29 pp.
Happy hour runs 4:00 to 6:00pm Monday to Thursday when you can get select beers and house wines for $7.
Located at 214 - 216 Harris Street, Pyrmont and open seven days from 11:00am to midnight with the exception on Sunday when they close at 10:00pm.
3. Tatts are back - Australia's meanest and most reliable Rock N’ Roll band 🌹
Yes the Tatts are back in town, I mean Rose Tattoo, for all you well experienced rockers.
Angry and the boys are still touring with their Hard Road Tour 2025. And doesn’t that make your heart sing 🧑🎤
The band kicked off with the first album “Rose Tattoo” back in 1978 and have produced nine albums to date and they were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame nineteen years ago. Can’t keep a great rock and roll band down 🎸
There are lots of tour dates across Australia but they are playing the Paddo RSL this Saturday, 5th of April 2025 at 7:30pm. Get to the RSL early for a couple of schooners and a fair priced counter meal, oh what a night !
Tickets are $45 per person including booking fee. Book online to avoid disappointment.
4. AFL: GWS Giants V West Coast Eagles 🏉
The GWS Giants clash this Sunday afternoon in round four with the West Coast Eagles at Engine Stadium / Sydney Showground. There is a 2 for 1 offer on adult tickets for this game.
Currently sitting in fifth spot on the ladder, the Giants will be looking to force their way back into the top four by overcoming an Eagles side who have already shown their best can match it with the competition leaders.
The Giants welcome the Eagles to Sydney holding a 3-2 advantage over them in their last five matches, with the Giants surging to a 65-point win in their last meeting in round two at Optus Stadium last year.
Gates open to the public at 12:00 noon and the game stars at 1:10 pm. General admission tickets for TWO adults start at $27 plus booking fee. Discounts for concession card holders and children under 15. Get your tickets through Ticketmaster
5. Great little Sunday hangout for the Inner West foodies 🥕 🍎 🥪
Marrickville does it well and there is no exception to this rule with the Marrickville Organic Food Market. The markets are located in the unique setting of a Second World War Army Barracks, what a place to hangout on a Sunday 😃
You can do your weekly food shopping with access to both certified organic and conventionally grown fresh fruit and veg, freshly baked bread and patisserie, artisan gourmet produce, seasonal produce straight from the farmer, deli products, local and French cheese, fish, meat and more.
You can also grab some brunch or lunch, coffee and other non-alcoholic beverages on site.
The Google reviewers have rated the markets 4.5 stars and Fonti sums it up well in the review “…Great range of food, everyone is super chilled. $3 parking but its pretty hectic! Highly recommend Brooklyn Bagel Boys! We got poppy seed + garlic scallion cream cheese! Mister Toastie was a great one too!…”
Located at 142 Addison Road, the Marrickville Organic Food Market runs every Sunday from 9:00am until 3:00pm.
Have a great weekend.
Cheers and beers,
Mick
